A couple of changes in the record business were announced. Veteran record exec Bobby Young is becoming the new Executive VP at Graham Entertainment’s labels, Country Thunder Records and new label, Permian Records. Bobby will report to Craig Morris. This could be good. Another major announcement will be the forming of a new label by producer James Stroud and ex-Capitol/UMG exec, Bill Catino. Both these guys are heavyweights in our industry. Stroud is a producer that has kept current with all musical trends over the years. I’m sure he’ll cut many hit records for the new label. Best wishes to all these guys. We get a great reaction to the articles people send in to our monthly E-News. Check it out and feel free to submit your “Letter to the Editor”. This is great fun and it gives the writers freedom to vent and to ask questions. |

There is a lot of talk about the TV series Nashville Star. Most people feel like it is poorly done and very amateurish. From the polling we’ve done, Billy Ray Cyrus and Jewel are weak (bad). John Rich is just fair and the best of the bunch, according to those we’ve asked is songwriter, Jeffery Steele. The panel really draws a negative reaction from those to whom we’ve spoken. Admittedly, the show is a poor takeoff on American Idol. American Idol continues to set the pace for contestant reality shows. These opinions are from those we have spoken with. However, the Nashville Tennessean newspaper rates the show very highly. I wonder if they’re looking at the same show we are watching?
