Top Successes of 2009

Big Machine RecordsAs we close down the year 2009, we look back at lots of successes and failures. In the success category, it has to go to Big Machine/Valory Records. These two independent labels, headed up by Scott Borchetta have really cut deep into the label action against Sony, Capitol, Warner Brothers, UMG, etc. They have proven that the major labels don’t have all the power in the world. They have proven that great product, great sales and promotion, along with financing, can make a big winner in the marketplace.

It makes me think back a few years ago when Scott was the VP Promotion at MCA. He really grew in the framework of a big company and requested that they begin a label just for him. They thought it was a wild dream and declined his request. He left the company, got a deal with Toby Keith and the rest is history. It really does portray the American dream. Scott is the son of Mike Borchetta, a man who has spent his whole working career in the music industry. Mike is running Lofton Creek Records. We wish both these family members continued success in our crazy world. Scott Borchetta has roped the music world, threw a saddle on it and trained it his way.
