On The Streets of NashvilleAll of us realize that radio is what we need……… in every way. We need radio to expose songs and to introduce new artists to the buying public. Over the past several years it has become really hard getting exposure for young acts. The looming debate in Washington that deals with forcing radio stations to pay artist fees is coming to a head. The National Association of Broadcasters has been lobbying hard for defeat of the proposal and it appears that they have enough votes to win.

According to a recent report, they have 300 lawmakers agreeing to the “no royalty payments”. For the lawmakers voting for the royalty payment, there are 279 for it. For some of us, this is good news. We feel that the name acts already have enough income but it is the struggling artists who need the exposure. At your local station, if they have a choice pf paying a royalty, who would get the airplay, the local guy or Alan Jackson? If you guessed Jackson, you’d be right and the local act would get dropped.  Advertising revenue is at an all-time low and stations in smaller towns across America are just squeaking by as it now stands. We’ll keep you posted.

With Thanksgiving close upon us, we await the annual Tracy Lawrence’s “Mission Impossible Turkey Fry” benefiting the Nashville Rescue Mission. Tracy has been doing this for several years and it is really a tremendous help for the homeless and folks who are in the homeless shelter. He is to be commended for stepping up and supplying food for those who otherwise wouldn’t have a Thanksgiving. Having said that, we wish you and yours a healthy and Happy Thanksgiving.
