Ferlin Huskey - The Real Deal!

Ferlin Huskey Catching a show starring Ferlin Husky is really something. Last Saturday night we had the opportunity to see this 83 -year-old legend. Though carrying an oxygen tank and tube, he still can thrill a crowd. He did “Wings Of A Dove” in a strong voice and had the audience sing it along with him. He headlined a show that benefited the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals. The fabulous Leona Williams sang several of her songs. She is indeed the queen of traditional country music. I could listen to her all night long.

The band was made up of key session players in the area. Also on the bill was Jett Williams (no kin to Leona), Dallas Frazier, Dicky Lee and Freddie Weller. Jett Williams sang many of her late father’s songs. Dicky and Freddie sang their string of hits. It was great to watch. Years ago, Ferlin took Dallas Frazier under his wing as a teenager to work in his show. Dallas is a monster singer and writer. I’m sure he had a lot of teaching from Ferlin in his younger years. Some of his big hits as a writer are “There Goes My Everything”, “Elvira”, “Mohair Sam”, “Alley Oop”, “Beneath Still Waters”, etc.

The fans loved his work on this night. The auction for the Shriners was a success and rose quite a bit of money. Due to poor promotion, the crowd was really small. I have spoken with several people who didn’t’ know the show was being held and they hated to miss it.
