In discussions here at Parade, we are convinced this is a poor time to consider penalizing radio for playing records. Under the present setup, the music industry is getting millions and millions of payments through BMI, ASCAP and SESAC. If you can put a promotional dollar value on exposure alone, it is worth billions annually. If it were not for radio, artists wouldn’t have any concerts or show dates. Radio is going through a very rough time. Sirius/XM radio’s stock is almost worthless and continues to go down. Add Clear Channel to the same list. We think the timing is wrong for any decision at this time. Your thoughts? |

We don’t want to completely wear a subject out but this story about radio paying artist royalties has really become a major item in the local newspapers. The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is really fighting it tooth and nail. You should check out
