About Us

Songwriters ParadeParade of Stars was established in 1968 by Russ Allison in Nashville Tennessee. Allison had considerable success with the publication but had to sell it  because of a non-compete contract he had signed with ex-Liberty Records’ owner, Al Bennett. Bennett hired Allison to become General Manager of Memphis Music Group.

The copyrights were mainly tunes from the old Stax/Volt Record labels, highlighted by the songs of Sam & Dave, Isaac Hayes, David Porter, Rufus Thomas, etc. Russ Allison wanted Chuck Chellman [Click Here for Chuck's bio] to buy the company since he and Chuck were friends, and Allison thought Chuck was the perfect person to perpetuate Parade of Stars. The sale became final in 1972.

The publication has remained the standard of the publishing “tip sheet” business. Thus, the subtitle, “America’s Music Source”.

Chellman’s vision of Parade of Stars was simply: Do it right. Make it honest, at all costs. Don’t allow the subscribers to get ripped off by music sharks. All the listings are authentic. Producers call us or we are in touch with them. The new additions are published weekly, or as they get to us. Producers call us because they know the integrity of the publication, or they are friends of long standing. We are always the first with the best.

Over the years, we have brought to subscribers listings on many up-and-coming stars.
