Green Train Obtaining The WRONG publicity

Songwriters Parade - The Green TrainJust because you’re old, it doesn’t mean you’re dumb. We had a large charge last week when we saw Beverly Keel’s article in the Tennessean saying that Merle Haggard filed a lawsuit against The Green Train and its founder, Bob Wolf. The Green Train is a concert and tour deal that will carry entertainers, athletes, writers and scientists to enlist support to fight environmental waste and destruction.

The tour begins in Portland, OR and goes through 28 states on a six-week whistle-stop tour that will hold seven major concerts and more than 20 smaller whistle-stop acoustic concerts, finally ending in Washington, DC. The tour is being investigated, alleging that defendants have engaged in dishonest and illegal behavior, using substantial amounts of money for personal purposes.  Hag’s suit claims the Green Train organizers would not voluntarily take the necessary action to notify its contributors of the true facts.  Haggard felt he couldn’t sit back and do nothing once he concluded that people had been misled by the use of his name and identity. However, Wolf claims he has a letter from Haggard stating he is “on board.”  Haggard claims his signature was forged.

This rift is amusing to some. Not really to us since Haggard donated $20,000.00 to the cause. Our opinion is that even though Wolf has a letter, Haggard may have seen things he didn’t like and simply changed his mind. If this is the case, perhaps all could have been solved with a meeting of the two. I don’t think a lawyer would suggest that. There are many times where lawyers inflame the minds of those who have a complaint that could be settled easily. We hope all this works out to the satisfaction of Merle and Bob.
