As were gathering listings for this issue, I got a call from Stardust Records’ Barbara Doss. As you may recall, her late husband, Buster Doss always was open to listing new material for his Stardust artists. I gave the eulogy at Buster’s funeral. A year ago, Barbara met and married Henry Brewer, a singer/musician. They were incredibly happy. Barbara called with the news that she has now lost Henry to a sudden heart attack. Henry, 65, left Florida to move to Tennessee and spend his life with Barbara and to keep his music career growing. Please keep Barbara Doss Brewer iin your prayers. This is the time of year when all the awards are passed out to the deserving people in our industry. One of the most important awards is the induction into The Songwriters Hall of Fame. The winners this year are Tom Shapiro, Matraca Berg and John Hiatt. All three are most deserving. Hiatt has had a big year, full of awards and has tremendous respect from the entire music community. He won the top artist/songwriter award from the Americana Music Assn. a few months back. How great these three must feel being in the same honor grouping as Harlan Howard, Dolly, Bill Anderson, Bobby Braddock, Loretta, Kris, etc. Congratulations to all. Speaking of Bill Anderson, he has had the most amazing career of most. He still wins award today and he had some wonderful things to say about Danny Dill in the local paper. Anderson was a DJ in Commerce, GA when “Long Black Veil” was a hit. |
